Wow Bicol

Brief History

Bicol is one of the 17 regions here in the Philippines. Its regional center is Legazpi. It has 6 provinces, 7 cities, 107 municipalities and 3,577 barangay’s. It is composed of four provinces in the Bicol Peninsula, the southeastern end of Luzon Island, and two island-provinces adjacent to the peninsula.

ECONOMY

Bicol has a big amount of rich flat land, and agriculture is the biggest component of the economy with close to 50% depends to their livelihood on the industry. Coconuts, abaca, banana, coffee and jackfruit are the top five permanent crops of Bicol. Rice and maize are the seasonal crops of the region. Agriculture and fishing are the major factors in the province's economy.

DELICIOUS DELICACY

Bicol has many delicacies that they can proudly present. One of these is the Ginataang gabi or Laing. A delicious and creamy and very spicy dish. It is made out of dried leaves of gabi, coconuts, onion, garlic, ginger, dried fish and siling labuyo. Pinakrong Batag also one of the foods of Bicol which is made out of banana, kinunot made out of stingray meat and malunggay and coconut milk, bicol express it is the most popular dish of Bicol which is made out of stewed pork, coconut milk, and chilies.

TOURIST SPOT

Bicol can offer the best nature experience. One can enjoy white sand beaches, explore mysterious caves, hike thru mountains and volcanoes and visit cultural sites. Laguna, Philippines

Brief History

Laguna is one of the largest provinces of the Philippines. It is found in Calabarzon region of Luzon. The capital of this province is the Santa Cruz. Laguna came from the Spanish word “lago” which means “lake” or “lagoon”. This province where Jose Rizal was born and they considered that this place is the Country’s national hero. It has 26 municipalities and 674 barangay’s

TOURIST SPOT

This province has many good places where you can relax and have bonding with your families with its beautiful views. One of these is the Rizal Shrine in Calamba City; it features the house of our national hero Jose Rizal. The Pagsanjan Falls which is also called Magdapio Falls. Mt. Makiling where you can find many hot springs such as: Hidden Valley Springs in Calauan, Crocodile Lake Springs, it is the City of springs, and also they have 8 mountains and 7 lakes that you will enjoy with its amazing views.

CHURCHES

Laguna has different magnificient churches. St. John the Baptist Church it is one of the oldest church here in Laguna where Jose Rizal baptized. St. Polycarp Church is a catholic church. Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic Church, St. Gregory Church, St. James the Apostle Church, San Pedro De Alcantara Church which is also known as the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Turumba, Sto. Rosario Parish Church, Immaculate Conception Parish Church, and St. Paul the First Hermit Cathedral.

RESOURCES

Laguna has mineral re sources like clay, basalt glass and jasper. This province also has natural resources. Its forest has planted of rattan, bamboo, and different kind of trees. It has wide fields and vested forest where they can plant rice, fruits, vegetables, coconuts, and exotic or ornamental flowers. And their greatest natural resources are water.

DELICIOUS DELICACY

Laguna has different delicacies that you will enjoy. They have the buko pie, it is usually made out of young coconut; kesong puti which is made out of carabao milk and it is very nutritious. Buko pie and kesong puti are some of the best food in Laguna.

Catanduanes, Philippines

CATANDUANES

It is an Island province of the Philippines. Virac is the capital of this Province. It has 11 municipalities and 315 barangays. Catanduanes came from the word “tandu” Which means a native beetle and “samdong” tree. It is recognized as a separate and independent province from Albay. Many people find Catanduanes as a peaceful and sacured.

FOLK FESTVALS

Catanduanes celebrated their folk festival as part of the religious rituals. They learned it from the Spanish Colonozation. These festivals are: Dinahit Festival, it is a festival of pandan and it is celebrated every April. Dinahit is a native sailing vessel. There are activities in this festival such as: street dancing, beauty pageant, and different races like carabao and boat race. Calvary, they celebrated during Holy Week, Kangharong, is a native depiction of nativity, Pantomina, it is a purely a native dance, Padayao sa Tinampo, it is also a native dance presented in street dancing. And lastly the Sugbo festival, it is celebrated every May to promote the tiger grass.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Catanduanes is one of the beautiful provinces in the Philippines. It has good spot where can tourist visit. This included the Puraran Beach; it is a majestic beach because of its whitesand and clean water. And also this is the site of surfing. Mamangal Beach, it is also like the puraran beach, the sands also are white and it has cool and sandy trees. Toytoy Beach it is good for picnic happenings. Igang Beach it has beautiful coral reefs, also white and clean beach. Suboc Beach it has amazing view. Dororian Resort it has natural cascading water. Maribina Waterfalls ideal for picnics, hiking, diving, and swimming. Nahulugan Falls it is surrounded by the forest. Marilima Beach is good for spear fishing.

CATANDUANE’S PRODUCT

Catanduanes is has their products that can proudly present. They use to export these products to other countries to earn money for their living. One of these is the pili nut it is nutritious and delicious. People make this as a chocolate. They have abbaca and lasa. Native products are made out of abaca like bags, lamps and many more.

Cebu

Brief History

Cebu is a province, consisting 128 islands, including the Cebu Island. Cebu is well wide because it has 225 kilometers from north to south and it is surrounded by little islands. Cebu City is the capital of Cebu; it is the oldest city of the Philippines. It has 3 independent cities, 6 component cities, 44 municipalities, and several barangays.

CLIMATE

Though Cebu has two different seasons, Dry and Wet, rainfall is not usually high. The wet season usually comes from June to December, while Dry season comes from January until May. Rainfall is highest in June and July. Cebu’s temperature sometimes, can reach a high, about 36 degree Celsius from March to May, to as low as 18 degrees at the mountains during the cooler season from October to January. Cebu averages 70%-80% humidity.

Geographic Feature

The landmarks of Cebu are very traditional and famous. Cebu is known for their great landmarks. These are some of the landmarks of Cebu: Cebu Heritage Monument, Magellans’ Cross, Fort San Pedro, Lapu- Lapu Shrine, Magellan shrine, Cebu Taoist Temle and Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

FESTIVALS

Cebu is known as the “Island of Festival” due to the popularity and the number of festivals celebrated throughout the province. These are some of the festivals of Cebu: Sinulog, is a religious festival celebrated every third Sunday of January to honor their Patron Saint, Señor Santo Niño de Cebu; Paskuhan, is a Christmas celebration during the month of December; Kadaugan Sa Mactan, held in Punta Engaño during April 27; Virgin of the Rule Fiesta, to honor their saint, Lapu-Lapu. Despite of the number of municipalities in Cebu, only four municipalities have no festivals.

Baguio City

Brief History

Baguio City is one of the beautiful cities of the Philippines. This city became the summer capital of the Philippines. It is a highly urbanized city of the Philippines. Baguio came from the word “bagiw” in Ibaloi. This city has 129 barangays.


ECONOMY

Baguio City has a good economy. It has more or less 8 universities and colleges where many students are studying here in Baguio and some of these students are foreigner. They are the good producer of agriculture and mining. Visitors are come to shop here in Baguio because of its cheap prices of the product but these products have a high quality. This city is the home of most profitable best investments areas. They have the major products which are vegetables, fruits and handmade products such as: brooms, baskets and many more.


FESTIVALS

Provinces and cities have their different amazing festivals that can proudly present and Baguio City has also their festivals. The most popular festival in this city is the Panagbenga Festival where many provinces are competing. It is held during the month of February. It is a flower festival and they called “season of blooming”. Also they have the Chinese New Year also in the month of February. It is very important to Chinese and people of Baguio considered it as one of their festivals to show respect.


CULTURE

Baguio has their traditional culture. Some of the population of this city re came from different countries and they contributed diversity of Baguio’s colorful culture. Artists are visiting the Baguio to establish their work especially in Cordillera Region. Some active youths are having their animations and digital arts. They have different language such as: English, Tagalog, Pangasinan, Ifugao, Ilocno, Kapampangan, Kankana-ey, Chinese and Korean. Because, recently many tourist are staying here for the rest of their lives.


DELICIOUS DELICACY

Baguio City has also a good delicacy not only in the other places. One of these delicacies is the peanut brittle which is made out of peanut, sugar, and honey. Also they have the strawberry taho that you should try because it is good in taste. Sundot kulangot is also one; it is usually made out of calamay. And the most popular is the Benguet coffee; it is usually the native coffee of Cordillera province.

Aurora is located in the Central Luzon region of the

PUERTO GALERA

A small and peaceful municipality of northeast coast of Mindoro is very popular destination here in our country. People come here from all over the country for its wonderful beaches and fun water activities. The little town has always been a trading haven even during the pre-Spanish era of its history. It is more fun in Puerto Galera, Philippines.
